Biography

In concert, his instrument and his body are one. To the point that when he plays the instrument, it is as if he makes the sound with his own breath. He plays in different styles : « musette », orchestral instrument, and especially experimental accordion. Thanks to interpretations of Bruno Maurice, the accordion is reborn. (Resmusica, 2005)

Atypical musician, Bruno Maurice is a discreet and an essential artist of the contemporary accordion.

Painter of sounds, he considers music as a gesture of creation of every moment whose colors are born from the silence and the living breath of his accordion.
Having started learning the accordion at age 6, he decided at the age of 10 to devote his life to music.
Since then, Bruno Maurice traces his path freely, according to time, chance and his encounters and his travels, loving to put himself in danger, break the codes to better stimulate creative thought. His duet with improviser Jacques Di Donato (clarinet) is the present illustration (album “L’homme de la route”, 2020).

Appassionata

In 1993, his meeting with the great Ukrainian performer Vladimir Besfamilnov will be a turning point in his career, which he will experience as a real revelation in the realization of artistic gesture and musical thought. He will leave Kiev in 2002 with the instrument entrusted by his master, the “Appassionata” accordion, a unique model in the world, a true treasure of instrumental making. It will be the beginning of a fundamental overhaul of his technique and of a research work based on the physiology of the musical gesture allowing the resonance of the body-instrument relationship … Passionate about instrumental making, he tunes, adjusts as closely as possible the reeds and the mechanics of his instrument.
